About

The founder of Poolehouse Designs, Cheryl Thompson, was born and raised in England. She moved to Canada in 1988 after receiving a full education in English and European gardening.

While obtaining her B.A. in Fine Art at University of Guelph, her daughter was severely injured in a motor vehicle accident. Her focus quickly changed from art to wheelchair accessibilty, and she was soon consulting for insurance companies.

By modifying the existing building, she enabled clients to return to their homes after they acquired catastrophic injuries; thereby, easing their reintegration back into the community. This slowly expanded into outdoor accessibilty and garden design. At this point she completed her Horticulture Certificate and became a full-time garden designer. This unusual set of skills; art, history, plant knowledge, and understanding of disability issues, have developed into a unique outlook on landscape design.

With a strong emphasis on form, colour, and function, Poolehouse Designs continues to evolve. We are currently moving into historical design and restoration and are very excited to be working with both Mississauga Museums and Hamilton Museums.

Our feature garden at Canada Blooms 2008 exemplifies historical design in a contemporary setting.
