Accessible Gardens
Accessible gardens are generally designed for people with mobility issues.

Importance of Accessibility – This is a basic right; we all have access to our homes. It is important that people with disabilities have as much independence as possible, for their mental health and well-being, instead of being dependent on others for simple everyday tasks like egress in and out of their home.

Importance of Aesthetics – People with physical challenges can sometimes feel like a moving target with all eyes trained on them. It is important that they feel comfortable and as normal as possible in their home environment. When a 30 ft ramp is attached to the front door, it is obvious to everyone that the house and the person living in it are different. It is important; therefore, that the design and modifications merge seamlessly with the landscape.

Personal Experience – My daughter has used a wheelchair for 15 years and she has a daily fight to gain access to the community. Her self-esteem soared once she could independently access our home and garden. She can enjoy time with her friends and family in an environment that supports her independence.
